Work is said to be done when body displace some distance along the direction of force.

Today we learned about potential energy and kinetic energy. kinetic energy is energy of motion, while potential energy is stored energy based on position and configuration. They are often interconvertible and their sum [mechanical energy] remain same constant in a closed system.
